On 20 – 23 May 2009, bto solicitors supported the collaboration of law firms worldwide by participating in Mackrell International’s AGM in Athens. Mackrell International is one of the world's major networks of independent law firms and members travelled from as diverse locations as Argentina, the USA, France, Norway, Russia, India, South Africa, Korea and Australia to attend the conference.
bto’s membership of the network enables it to provide its clients, in particular those transacting business overseas, with access to quality legal representation across the globe.
At the AGM, Roddy Harrison, Tax Planning, Wills and Estates Partner at bto, contributed to a conference-wide discussion on “Marketing in challenging conditions - what's your solution?”. bto’s Marketing Manager, Marianne McAvenna, spoke on behalf of Mackrell International’s Marketing Committee, outlining its function and providing an overview of the different marketing tools used by member firms both internally and externally to promote the network.
Member firms are independent, medium-sized, full service and share a ‘common sense’ commercial approach to legal matters. Each firm identifies closely with the business communities to which it belongs and invites respect from its peers. As a result, firms can remain close to their clients while at the same time offering them the expertise and knowledge obtained by professionals in other jurisdictions. Founded twenty years ago, the network includes currently over 60 firms in more than 100 offices on five continents.
Following the business meetings, delegates and accompanying persons were immersed in Greek culture with a trip to the Acropolis and Parthenon and a Greek evening in Plaka with traditional food, music and dance. Roddy Harrison said: “I was delighted to represent bto and Scotland at Mackrell International’s AGM. Our long-standing personal relationships with members means that bto’s clients receive dependable and personal local services within an international framework.”
