On the weekend of 3 – 5 October 2008, Karen Brodie, a Partner in bto’s Commercial Property team and Caroline Carr, Partner, Accredited Specialist and head of bto’s Employment team, visited Budapest for the MACKRELL INTERNATIONAL (MI): Regional Meeting of EMEA (Europe, the Middle East & Africa).
MI is a global network of independent full service law firms who share a ‘common sense’ commercial approach to legal matters. One of the purposes of the Budapest meeting was to review changes in the current economic, political and legal environment to ensure that member firms remain fully aware of all matters relevant to their clients.
bto’s representatives shared business ideas and best practice techniques with fellow members and made significant contacts so that bto’s clients can access, via the network, quality legal representation worldwide as and when required.

Commitment on the part of individual lawyers has become a hallmark for MI as strong, long-standing personal relationships among MI members results in clients receiving prompt, reliable representation from other member firms. Consequently, regular business and social gatherings are positively encouraged among MI members.
Karen and Caroline travelled to Budapest with their respective partners and whilst delegates discussed MI business matters, accompanying persons enjoyed a visit to Parliament and the Castle District (Mathias Church, Fishermen’s Bastion). In addition, all attendees benefited from a tour of Budapest and a visit to the Citadel overlooking the Danube followed by a gala dinner on the Saturday evening.
We look forward to the City of Glasgow gaining from such widespread foreign interest when bto hosts lawyers from Europe, the Middle East & Africa at MI’s European Regional Conference on 2 - 4 October 2009.
