Renewable Energy

  • We have considerable experience in acting for landowners, operators and funders in the negotiation of complex land options and leases.

  • In both urban and rural projects, we have advised on oversail agreements, from the perspective of each of the parties that are typically interested in such agreements, including developers, operators and funders.

  • We are retained by a very active lender in several current projects involving the financing of the construction and operation of on-shore wind farms in Scotland.

  • Advising clients on the planning aspects of proposed developments.

  • As many renewable energy projects are motivated by community and charitable aims, we make considerable use of our experience in establishing charities and community based enterprises, setting up their trading subsidiaries and advising them on the issues they face through their involvement in the renewable energy sectors.

  • With biomass initiatives featuring prominently on the agendas of local authorities, where the benefits to the local community are closely measured, we are becoming involved  increasingly in setting up community interest companies.  We don't just set up these companies; we retain them as clients and provide ongoing advice to them, including steering them through the public procurement regime.

  • Acting in a substantial litigation involving an off-shore wind farm.

  • Completing a sizeable, complex transaction involving a company specialising in sustainable energy.

  • Planning Appeals to the Court of Session and other planning disputes.
