David is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as an employment law specialist. In 2006, he was awarded a Masters Degree with Distinction in Employment Law and Practice from Robert Gordon University.
He has specialised in employment law throughout his career, advising all types of employers, from small undertakings to large plcs, and employees, particularly senior executives. He advises on every aspect of employment law and practice.
David provides tailored employment documentation and advice on all employment related matters, including disciplinary issues, performance questions, ill health absences, dismissals, enforceability of restrictive covenants and compromise agreements.
David has represented clients at the Sheriff Court, Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal throughout the UK and assisted in cases raised in the Court of Session covering issues such as unfair dismissal, unlawful deduction of wages, breach of contract, discrimination and interdicts. He has also been involved in some significant business transfers in both the public and private sector. He works closely with the firm’s solicitor advocates and other teams, including corporate, litigation and social housing.
David presents seminars regularly, lectures on employment law and is a frequent contributor to legal publications.
External Appointments
David is employment law adviser to the Inverclyde Contact Centre Forum. David is a mentor with the Scottish Mentoring Service and Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce. He is also a board member of Engage Renfrewshire.
After Hours
David is a Visiting Professor of Employment Law in the Law School at the University of Strathclyde and lectures in employment law for the University of Stirling. He is also a tutor in employment law for the University of Strathclyde. In 2006, he was awarded a Masters Degree with Distinction in Employment Law and Practice from Robert Gordon University. He plays bass trombone in his local brass band, the Renfrew Burgh Band, of which he is Chairman.
