The name “ECURIE ECOSSE” is remembered mostly by ‘gentlemen of a certain age’, but its history is one of the greatest motor sport stories ever told: that of a small privateer team from a mews garage in Edinburgh who took their Jaguar D-type to LeMans in 1956 and won outright, beating works teams of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati and others. They returned in 1957, and took first and second places – a real ‘David & Goliath’ story.
Fifty years later in 2007, performance car specialists Driver’s Accessories Limited of Glasgow had the vision of a Limited Edition “Ecurie Ecosse” Jaguar XF. Having approached bto for intellectual property advice, bto’s Technology & IP team helped secure a licence allowing Drivers to use the “Ecurie Ecosse” name and logo. The result is the beautiful vehicle shown in the photographs which was launched at the British International Motor Show at the Excel Centre in London on 22 July 2008. The famous logo appears on the side of the car and several carefully selected modifications have been carried out to the exhausts, braking, engine, suspension and interior. The result is a spectacular vehicle worthy of the association with the famous racing team’s name and history: and it is available only in the equally famous blue colour, naturally!
bto’s Technology & IP team can advise in relation to all aspects of IP and technology, including IP licensing.
