- Acquisition Finance & Diligence
Preparing banking documents for acquisition finance and carrying out due diligence in relation to acquisitions. These transactions involve specialist reporting on heritable and intellectual property issues.
- Portfolio Funding Exercises
bto worked in conjunction with an English legal firm, working on a number of portfolio funding exercises for a major Irish bank in the nursing homes and retail/office sectors.
- Renewable Energy & Ethical Banking Finance
Acting in funding projects for renewable energy and ethical businesses and charities, including wind farms, hydro projects, biomass projects, charitable and community based social projects, fair trade enterprises and organic food and farming.

For clearing/boutique Banks, borrowers, investors and syndicated lenders. Also acting for specialist lenders in the historical buildings/BPT sector.
We act for a global shipping company and advised in connection with the Scottish security aspects involved in their new global banking facility. Facility value - $1billion.
- Advising developer/investor clients
Large and small house builder clients and property investors rely on us for all of their banking and finance advice.
We have been acting for a client company in connection with the refinance of loan facilities of with their Bank, secured over large residential property portfolio. Facility value - £23M.
- Social housing sector
Renowned as experts by all of the major clearing Banks, we are the “go to” firm in this specialist sector. We have recently advised clients in relation to security work on facilities of up to £80M in value.
Our project finance team is one of the busiest in the country. We act for European and UK banks lending to wind, hydro and other renewable projects. Where we are not acting for a Bank in a particular project, often at the Bank’s recommendation, we are acting for the Borrower. Bank are regular referrers of borrower clients to us.
We acted for a European Bank in relation to all banking and diligence aspects (corporate, banking land and project) of a three turbine wind farm. This involved complex and detailed due diligence to complete a water tight project finance deal. Facility value - £7.8M.
- Ethical and social finance
We are exclusively instructed in Scotland by a major European ethical bank. Our reputation for excellence in this sector also sees us instructed by many Charities and Community Bodies. We believe we are one of the busiest firms in this sector.
A recent example of work in this sector was acting for a Bank in ethical finance to a charitable organisation purchasing land with over 150 holiday houses. Facility value - £1.5M.
- Insolvency and restructuring
Banks and Insolvency Practitioners seek our expert advice on their security suites, restructuring and recoveries. We work closely with our Banking Litigation colleagues enabling us to service our clients with the best advice.
We have been involved in a number of high profile insolvency related matters, appointed by the direction of the main secured creditor Bank or on the recommendation of the Bank’s preferred Insolvency Practitioner.
- Licensed/leisure sectors
Dealing with banking and finance work for Banks, Insolvency Practitioners and borrowers (for example we continue to advise European and UK wide hotel chains on their financial structures).
We are instructed by a major clearing Bank in their recovery proceedings and licensing aspects of licensed premises. Most recently have been acting in relation to a number of hotels – recovering possession for the Bank, advising on licensing aspects and dealing with ultimate sale of the properties.
