Planning

Planning Applications – From initial consideration to grant of permission

The planning application process can be lengthy and complex. From 3 August 2009, the Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006 ushered in a new hierarchy for applications – (1) national (2) major or (3) local – with different procedures for each type of application.

bto can assist applicants negotiating this system, starting with identification of, and compliance with, the appropriate procedures for your particular application. For example, where necessary (depending on the procedure that applies) we can advise on:

  • pre-application consultation
  • pre-determination hearings
  • time limits for planning authority decisions and
  • what to do if the authority decides against you

We also act for third parties who wish their position to be put before the planning authority during an application process.
