The head of BTO’s Creative Industries, Data and IP team completed the London Marathon on 28th April. Paul Motion was running in his first marathon and completed the course in just over his target time of five hours.
Paul said: “London has been on the bucket list for a while, so I was both excited and petrified when I found out last October that I had secured a ballot place, at the fourth attempt. 414,000 people applied and only 52,000 places were available”.
As to motivation, Paul explained that several close friends had lost family members to brain tumours, hence his decision to fund raise for The Brain Tumour Charity.
Paul added: “I was also quite stunned to discover recently that research into brain tumours is twenty years behind other cancers. So, when the ballot place came through the choice was obvious. I’d encourage others to give 26.2 miles a try - if a lapsed runner like me can upgrade from being a three mile plodder to covering the full distance in the space of five months, anyone can do it”.
