Following the ‘life-cycle’ of a contract, the event speakers will offer expert tips; share their expertise for negotiating and managing contracts to mitigate associated risks; update delegates on the latest relevant cases and discuss future scenarios in the area of ADR and in the current Brexit landscape.

BTO Corporate Partner Alastair Dunn, a presenter at this event, has been a leading figure in company law for over 20 years. In that time he has gained vast experience in an extensive range of transactions. By invitation, Alastair has also devised and written a new course on commercial contracts for the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow where he continues to manage the course in his capacity as senior tutor. Alastair also mentors law students in the University’s CLASP Programme (Corporate Law Advisory Support Project) where advice is provided to start-up businesses.

At this conference, Alastair will discuss “Effective contract drafting: a refresher for commercial practitioners”. He will provide pointers for good drafting practice, identify common drafting errors and highlight what delegates should keep in mind to avoid contract blunders.

In relation to his speaker slot at the conference, Alastair commented:

“I am delighted to have been invited to present at The Law Society’s Contract Law Conference 2019. I am passionate about this area of the law and about helping fellow practitioners and business owners to get up to speed with producing effective contracts which will protect their businesses”.

The conference will be practical and interactive, with delegates being given the opportunity to join the speakers in discussion at the end of each session and to ask questions on specific matters affecting their practices.
