On Tuesday 19 February 2019, Jonathan Tait, a solicitor in BTO’s Media & Entertainment team, will be presenting the workshop “Music Industry Contract Essentials, Copyright and Monetising Intellectual Property” as part of the Scottish Music Industry Association’s (SMIA) innovation-led development programme. This programme is designed to help nurture business talent and build infrastructure in Scotland's music industry.
Jonathan has not only a legal music industry background, but many years of practical music industry experience, including A&R, artist management, tour management and much more. Jonathan will be sharing his extensive understanding of the workings of the music industry by providing delegates with guidance on how to protect their work as a music creator or, on behalf of the creator, as a practitioner.

In his workshop, Jonathan will look at how to get started. He will provide an introduction to recording contracts. Jonathan will look at music industry management and he will offer introductions to management contracts, publishing and live performance. Jonathan will also consider touring, IP protection, copyright and how to monetise IP.
This workshop will be hosted at The Scottish Storytelling Centre (Netherbow Theatre) in Edinburgh from 3pm – 6pm.
