Alan is ranked in band 1 by Chambers UK and is recommended by The Legal 500 in the field of professional liability. He is well known in the construction sphere in particular and remains "everything a client is looking for," since he is "knowledgeable, proactive and on top of his cases" and "sees the bigger picture and brings a very commercial approach." (Chambers UK).
Alan has in-depth experience of handling professional liability claims on behalf of solicitors, accountants, financial advisers, surveyors, planning consultants, architects, engineers and other such construction professionals. He has also represented numerous individuals and corporate clients in the pursuit of claims against professionals for negligence and breach of contract and is highly thought of by peers, with one commenting: "It would be difficult to find a more pragmatic lawyer." (Chambers UK)
Alan has particular experience of acting for solicitors and their insurers under the Law Society of Scotland's Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme and, similarly, of handling professional liability claims for architects and consulting engineers under their various professional indemnity insurance arrangements.
CORE mediation accreditation qualifies Alan to act as a mediator. He regularly represents clients in mediations and is actively involved in training on ADR.
Alan favours a pragmatic but thorough approach to claims, focused on achieving his clients’ desired objectives as efficiently and economically as possible.
After Hours
During rare lulls between providing a taxi service to his daughters, Alan enjoys music, cinema and painting. He is also keen on travelling and hill-walking.
