Andrew is a Solicitor Advocate, specialising in criminal law. Over the past decade, he has represented clients in some of the most serious and high profile cases heard in the Scottish criminal courts. This has involved regularly appearing in Sheriff Courts across Scotland, representing clients facing an extensive array of criminal charges, as well as working closely with Counsel in the preparation and conduct of matters heard in the High Court of Justiciary. Andrew is also adept at handling criminal appeals and has played a key role in cases taken to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
Andrew has developed a particular interest in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and has regularly acted for clients facing restraint, inhibition, civil recovery actions for forfeiture or confiscation proceedings in the Sheriff Court, High Court of Justiciary and Court of Session. These cases are often linked to large scale and complex financial crimes. Advising clients facing action under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 is a particular specialism.
Andrew is experienced in assisting clients being investigated by regulatory authorities including the Financial Conduct Authority, Health and Safety Executive, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the General Medical Council. Andrew will guide clients through such investigations and provide representation should enforcement (e.g. prosecution) follow. In addition to his criminal caseload, Andrew also represents clients at Fatal Accident Inquiries.
Andrew is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association, Scottish Medico Legal Society and the Society of Solicitor Advocates.
