Karina is a Partner in BTO’s insurance team. She specialises in defending a wide range of personal injury claims for various insurers and large self-insured companies. She is responsible, along with two other partners, for the supervision and management of one of the firm's largest teams of solicitors and claims handlers.
She has extensive experience of claims concerning public, employers' and road traffic liability in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court. As such, she is well versed in the liability issues arising from each.
Karina fully understands the tactical and economic advantage of early disclosure and settlement but is comfortable running cases all the way to proof or jury trial where issues of principle or value dictate it. One client commented: “Thanks for such a great result. I am not surprised … it affirms my confidence in the firm.”
Karina delivers training and workshops to her insurance clients on a range of different topics including (among others) court reforms and procedure, slips and trips, employers liability claims, quantification of damages and psychological claims. She can provide bespoke training where necessary.
Karina is a member of Foil (Forum of Insurance Lawyers) and is a member of the FOIL Rules sector focus group. She was recently involved in FOIL’s response to the consultation on the Sheriff Court draft simple procedure Rules.
