BTO Appoints Four New Partners

01 December 2023

BTO has announced its latest round of promotions, including four new partners, with effect from 1 December 2023.

This news closely follows the addition of new Edinburgh based partners Tim Edward and Euan Fleming in November.

BTO Appoints Four New Partners

Lindsay MacNeill is an experienced member of our market leading regulatory team. She is classed as a ‘Rising Star’ for her work in the fields of financial crime and health and safety, for which BTO is ranked band 1 by the Legal 500. Her commercial acumen and experience as a Procurator Fiscal is valued both by her clients and colleagues in BTO’s Regulatory & Criminal Defence team, recently awarded Crime Firm of the Year by The Legal 500.

Bruce Battersby, who specialises in helping his clients find solutions to their succession, inheritance tax and capital gains tax issues, will be heading up the firm’s Wills, Estates and Succession Planning practice in Helensburgh, working seamlessly with his colleagues in the firm’s Glasgow and Edinburgh offices.

Kirsty McGuinness is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in family law and as a family law mediator. Her promotion is testament to the key role she has played, working alongside team head Lesley Gordon, in developing the family team. Kirsty has practised exclusively in family law for over 16 years, gaining expertise in all areas of family law, including high net worth cases and complex wealth protection agreements.

Jill Harris, of the firm’s top ranked Professional Discipline and Clinical Defence team, is described as a ‘Rising Star’ by The Legal 500 for her work in defending clinicians in cases for all three of the UK’s main medical defence organisations. Jill, who has two secondments to the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS) under her belt, brings significant expertise and client awareness to her team.

David Gibson, BTO’s Chairman, said:

“These well-deserved internal promotions, across a range of disciplines, illustrate the breadth of expertise within our firm and the steady growth in each area, all part of the firm’s ongoing development and encouragement, both of our internal team and the external talent we welcome.

“It always gives deep pleasure to see individuals within the firm develop their potential and we congratulate them all.”

“The level of service has always been excellent, with properly experienced solicitors dealing with appropriate cases" Legal 500
