Independent Scottish law firm bto has announced it has promoted four senior solicitors to Associate level.
Karina Manson, James Stewart, Claire Macpherson and David Young have all made the step up to Associate level and will now take on more responsibility in their individual teams.
Chairman Willie Young said: “I am delighted that these four talented individuals – covering a wealth of specialisms - have been promoted and that their contribution to the firm and to the clients that they work with has been recognised.”
Karina Manson specialises in defending claims for insurance clients and has an involvement in a broad range of insurers’ representation claims, ranging from motor claims to employers’ liability and public liability claims. She has experience in both the Sheriff Court and Court of Session procedure and spent a year in bto’s Edinburgh office advising on Court of Session procedure.
James Stewart deals mainly with Fatal Accident Inquiries, regulatory (disciplinary) hearings on behalf of doctors and dentists and clinical negligence claims. He has a great deal of experience in Fatal Accident Inquiries, having appeared on numerous occasions for insurers, medical defence organisations and on behalf of the Scottish Government. James also represents doctors and dentists before their regulatory bodies, the GMC and the GDC.
Claire Macpherson has been with bto since she was a trainee, qualifying in 2004. Since then she has specialised in Tax Planning, Trusts, Wills and Estates. Claire has extensive experience in inheritance tax and capital gains tax planning for individuals, beneficiaries and executors, and regularly advises clients in connection with these.
David Young is involved in a variety of business disputes for bto’s commercial team as well as financial sector clients. He frequently appears in the Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland, often against Counsel. David is also an integral part of bto’s team operating in the affordable housing sector and acts for some of the largest Registered Social Landlords in Scotland in legal proceedings affecting them.
Willie Young concluded: “bto works hard to develop our employees’ legal skills, enabling them to achieve their personal and professional goals while meeting client needs innovatively, efficiently and cost-effectively."
