Leading Scottish independent law firm bto solicitors has announced the appointment of Alan Borthwick as its new Chairman. Alan will assume the role on 1 April 2014 when current longstanding Chairman, Willie Young, retires from the firm to pursue his other interests.
Alan has been a Partner in the firm for more than three decades. As well as being the head of bto’s property and real estate team, he is on the board of a number of charities.
Commenting on his new appointment, Alan said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as Chairman of bto. Since joining the firm over 30 years ago I have worked with extremely talented people, including my predecessor Willie Young, so to have the opportunity to lead the whole bto team is a very exciting prospect.
On behalf of the partnership, I would like to thank Willie for his outstanding contribution to the development of the firm during his six years as Chairman and before that as our Managing Partner. Willie’s invaluable input and assured direction has been fundamental in ensuring the steady and continuous growth and success of bto, with partner numbers more than doubling under his leadership.”
Willie Young, in turn, welcomed Alan to the role: “It is great news for bto that Alan has been elected as Chairman. Having worked closely with Alan for many years, I know that I am leaving the position in highly skilled and capable hands.”
