BTO have an exciting opportunity for a Head of IT to oversee and manage the IT and computer systems across all offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Helensburgh, and to advise on IT solutions that can improve and enhance the Firm’s internal and external reporting.

This role will report to the Firm’s Chief Operating Officer and will manage a team of 5 staff – 3 x IT Assistants, an IT Developer and a MI Analyst.

There will be a requirement to develop and manage a diverse range of IT systems and processes, many of which are integrated with the Firm’s financial systems, on time and on budget, in line with user expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage a diverse range of IT systems and processes, many of which are integrated with the Firm’s financial systems, on time and on budget, in line with user expectations
  • Project Management:
    • develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
    • ensure resource availability and allocation, developing project plans to track progress
    • use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
    • measure and report on project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
    • perform risk management to minimise project risks
    • establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors and stakeholders
    • ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget, keeping management updated on progress
    • evaluate at each project stage and once completed
    • ensure appropriate transition plans are in place to facilitate a smooth change over from old systems to new ones
  • Database Management
    • develop and ensure implementation of database management systems to provide users and programmers with a systematic way to create, retrieve, update and manage data
    • ensure that systems meet user needs or project requirements
    • ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
    • ensure that IT business continuity plans are in place to minimise the impact of any risks due to loss or corruption of IT systems
    • identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time
    • audit systems and assess their outcomes
  • Remote Access, telecommunications and mobile devices
    • manage the Firm’s remote access, telecommunications systems and mobile devices ensuring cost effective and fit for purpose solutions
  • Data Analysis
    • create and provide data analysis for management information including for the purposes of large scale tenders
  • IT Management
    • design, develop, implement and coordinate all IT systems, policies and procedures
    • selection and purchasing of appropriate hardware and software
    • plan, organise, control and evaluate IT and electronic data operations
    • ensure Firm compliance with software licensing laws
    • manage the annual budget and ensure cost effectiveness through evaluating the functionality of systems
    • manage secure network access for remote users
    • ensure that upgrades are scheduled and managed appropriately
    • provide user training, support, advice and feedback
  • Essential skills and experience required:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
    • up to date knowledge of IT systems and processes including
    • SQL programming and reporting
    • proven project management knowledge and experience
    • line management experience
    • excellent planning, organisational and evaluation skills
    • well-developed analytical and problem solving skills
    • ability to interpret and translate complex information to meet user needs
    • excellent communications skills
  • Desirable:
    • project management qualification
