Seafarers UK Scotland, the leading charity for the maritime community, is hosting its annual Royal Marines Band Concert on Monday 22 November 2010 in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall. bto is pleased to support this charity by sponsoring the event.
The aim of the concert is to raise money for needy seafarers and their dependants. In Scotland, in 2010, that support will range from the welfare of families of Royal Marines killed and injured in Afghanistan, to regular home visits to dependants of seafarers by specialist individuals who are able to assist in relation to health, family, state of mind and other problems. On Monday evening, the Usher Hall audience will enjoy 45 Royal Marine bandsmen backed by the Edinburgh Gilbert & Sullivan Society singers. The performers’ repertoire will consist of a wonderful mixture of traditional military music and light classical music.
bto’s Chairman, Willie Young, said: “bto is proud to sponsor Seafarers UK as it awards grants to other worthy maritime charities. Many of our personnel, who are keen sailors, have an understanding of the perils of the sea and an admiration of the work done by our fishermen, Merchant Navy and Royal Navy. It is our pleasure to support existing and ex-seafarers and their families. This event has always been a highlight of the Usher Hall programme and bto is delighted to be a part of it.”
