The Professional Discipline and Clinical Defence team at BTO is ranked in band 1 by Chambers UK in terms of our clinical negligence work and is regarded as "the pre-eminent clinical negligence defence team in Scotland." (Chambers UK)
Claims against doctors, dentists and hospitals have been on the increase for a number of years. Handling such claims, particularly from the point of view of the medical, dental or nursing professionals involved, is an extremely specialised area and the leaders in their field at BTO have successful track records in this area. "The quality of the partners makes this a standout practice that should be regarded as number one in Scotland."
The team has considerable experience in representing principally the medical, dental and nursing professions in relation to damages claims, Fatal Accident Inquiries (FAIs) and in dealing with complaints against those professionals, in particular to the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC). In addition, we represent the medical profession in disciplinary proceedings brought by their employers and in NHS tribunals, and the dental profession in investigations brought about by the NHS Counter Fraud Service team.
The team, praised for “their consistently high-quality work and client-friendly approach” (Chambers UK), is headed by Laura Donald, who has spent many years working in this field. "They are very personable, quick to get back to you and able to handle the most complex and difficult litigation - ten out of ten." (Chambers UK)
